Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. saidonFriday it will sell its cathode ray tube (CRT) business inGermanyto two investment firms to boost operational efficiency.
CRTs are used in conventional television sets.
Matsushita will sell 96 percent of the German unit, which hasacapacity to make 1.5 million CRTs a year, to Dutch-basedinvestmentfirm Here Genesis BV, with the remainder sold to anotherinvestmentcompany set up by the unit"s executives.
Matsushita, the world"s largest plasma TV maker, declinedtodisclose the selling price, but said it has no plan to reviseitsearnings forecast as a result of the deal.
The subsidiary ceased operations in March 2006. It still haslandand factory buildings although production equipment hasalreadybeen taken away.
Shares in Matsushita closed up 1.5 percent at 2,445 yen aheadofthe announcement.
