2008 Volvo S40 and V50 Make Worldwide Debut
Volvo on Tuesday rolled out its redesigned 2008 Volvo S40 and V50. The vehicles will make their debut this summer in Europe and hit U.S. showrooms in the fall.
Interestingly, the decision has been made to not bring diesel or flex-fuel variants of the S40 and V50 to the States, according to Volvo spokesman Dan Johnston. Johnston said Volvo will offer a single engine choice here, the 2.5-liter inline-5 that has been tweaked to make 227 horsepower. Johnston said the torque number will also "move up a bit." The specific torque number is not yet available. The 2008 2.5-liter inline-5 will be mated to a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. In the meantime, Europe gets nine engine choices on the S40 and V50, including a 180-hp D5 diesel that delivers 295 lb-ft of torque with a manual transmission. A 125-hp 1.8F E85 engine is also available.
