BMW to unleash 30 new models by 2010
BMW has promised to launch no fewer than 30 new models worldwide by 2010, starting with the X6 crossover, which will go into production at Spartanburg, South Carolina, later this year. Built on the same platform as the X5.
BMW is to increase capacity at Spartanburg, where it also builds the Z4, from 140,000 vehicles a year to 200,000, and will expand its engineering facility at Woodcliffe Lake, New Jersey. BMW's US CEO Tom Purves told New York showgoers that BMW will have invested $25 billion in its activities in the USA between 2005 and 2009. Purves said that the 30 new models due by 2010 included some new variants for existing ranges, and some facelifted versions of current cars.
